Robert Rhoades was a beloved teacher and coach at Salem High School for 32 years. During that time he taught history, was the boys basketball coach for 8 years, and continued to coach the boys cross country and tennis teams until his passing. He was most known for his vibrant personality and personal involvement in his students’ lives. In the summer of 2006, the Bob Rhoades Scholarship Fund was set up. It became not only a way for Mr. Rhoades to continue helping his students as they pursue college careers, but also a great way to annually celebrate the impact that he had on all of those around him. The first Bob Rhoades Scholarship Tennis Tournament was a great success in August of 2006, and in 2007 a 3 on 3 basketball tournament will also be added to the event.
